“Our family lives in an intentional community on an 88 acre farm in NW Washington. In March of 2019 our house we lived in for the past 20 years caught fire. We lost almost everything.

With strong support from family and friends we were able to buy a small yurt. Very quickly all our basic needs were met. In the 2 years following the fire we carefully deconstructed the damaged structure, salvaged all useable material, and designed and built a beautiful new home.

Deconstructing and building our own home was a very difficult but healing process. It became apparent that although losing our home was painful, it was ultimately a gift. We moved into our new home in November of 2020. We enjoyed many wonderful gatherings with our family and community. On Christmas Eve of 2021, while at Grandma’s house for dinner, our new home caught fire and burned again.

We are making a documentary to share the wisdom we have gained in the decades of living in community and the illuminations we received both personally and communally from the 2 house fires. Some themes will be restorative justice, restorative agriculture, deconstruction for re-use, alternative building, alternative energy, local food, cooperative home school education, habitat restoration, eco-forestry, land trusts, gift economy, blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, and NFTs.

We hope to express that life is a gift that is meant to be shared. We must help each other and collaborate to transform our lives and culture into kinder systems grounded in generosity and abundance for all of life. We are requesting help for our family and community in this time of transformation. We hope our documentary will contribute to increasing the flow of gifts for all.

Thank you to the Seeds community for actualizing a functional gift economy that reminds us that giving is more profitable than exchange.
