Anyone can redeem a SEED to make a Request for Help, as Maine in Columbus, USA did below. Here it is in his own words, with editing for clarity:
“I actually teared up doing the TikTok and had to do it several times. I was taught that as a black man that you don’t beg. You work and take care of your family.
My Mom actually beat my butt once for asking someone for money when I was a kid. I’m not mad at her it’s just what we are taught in the black community. And when you ask, you are treated wrong or looked down on.
After being laid off for several months, my job called me in December and rehired me but at fewer hours, so we haven’t been able to catch up on the rent and bills. Now we are about to be evicted.
We have been avoiding the sheriff and trying to come up with the money. I have four kids—two girls and two boys. We have been to a couple of places trying to get help, but a lot say they are out of funds or we don’t qualify.
This is my last resort. I’m hoping there is a way the Seeds community can help us, so we aren’t on the streets.”
$1675 was raised, fulfilling 100% of the goal! Thank you!
